Illinois

An Illinois state audit determined that Flock Safety allowed U.S. Customs and Border Protection to access Illinois license plate cameras and run surveillance on drivers, in violation of state law restricting federal data sharing.

An Illinois state audit found that Flock Safety — which partners with more than 5,000 law enforcement agencies nationwide — allowed U.S. Customs and Border Protection to access Illinois license plate cameras and surveil drivers, violating a state law that restricts sharing such data with federal agencies.

Flock pledged changes in response, but the finding fueled investigations and contract cancellations in Illinois and beyond.
